ROVITEC Sentinel is our platform for developing and delivering remote maritime operations from Finnsnes. By bringing together experienced operators, remotely operated and autonomous systems, sensors and communications technology, ROVITEC Sentinel is being developed to support operations across aquaculture, offshore and other maritime industries.
Our long-term vision is to connect operational capabilities and existing maritime infrastructure into a distributed network that can support everyday operations, emergency response and maritime situational awareness.

ROVITEC is a Norwegian maritime technology company based in Finnsnes, Northern Norway. We work with subsea technology, autonomous systems and remote operations, combining advanced technology with practical experience from the maritime and aquaculture industries.
Our focus is on technology that can make a real difference in day to day operations. We look for solutions that can make maritime work more efficient, accessible and scalable, while addressing the practical challenges operators face at sea.
We work closely with technology manufacturers, industry partners and operators to bring proven technology into real operations and to take part in developing and testing new solutions.
ROVITEC was founded by Roy Viken, with a maritime career that has developed from building and repairing vessels to operating them and eventually taking command at sea.
His career began at Kaarbø Mek. Verksted in Harstad, working in shipbuilding and steel fabrication on the construction and repair of vessels. He later moved into vessel operations, working as a motorman in the engine department for Hurtigruten aboard Richard With, before continuing into service vessels and the aquaculture industry.
Since 2015, he has worked in aquaculture service operations, progressing from project responsibility to vessel command. Today, he works as a skipper and holds a D6 certificate.
This experience, from building vessels to operating and commanding them, has shaped the way ROVITEC approaches maritime technology. New solutions have to work outside the office, under real operating conditions and for the people who actually use them.
ROVITEC was established with a simple idea: new maritime technology works best when it is combined with practical operational experience.
ROVs, autonomous platforms, underwater sensors, communication systems and remote operations are changing what can be done from shore and at sea. ROVITEC works to turn these technologies into practical solutions for maritime and aquaculture operations.
The same thinking is behind ROVITEC Sentinel, our long term development of remote maritime operations. The goal is to combine technology with experienced operators and make operational capability available regardless of where the operator is physically located.
